About the Teacher

Premasindhu Gauranga Das

Premasindhu Gauranga Das came in touch with ISKCON while studying engineering at Pune. Fascinated by the theology of Vaishnavism, he then went on to do a bachelor’s degree in Vaishnavism from the University of Madras.

Having a long-standing desire of serving society as a monk and teacher, he joined the ISKCON temple at Juhu, Mumbai as a full-time celibate monk. In Mumbai, he served at the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust (BBT). At BBT, he compiled books from the teachings of Srila Prabhupada and also proofread all the books of Srila Prabhupada. Apart from serving at the BBT, he also developed outreach preaching programs for youth, congregation and villagers.

In 2015, wishing to dive more deeply into Srila Prabhupada's books, he went on to study at the Vrindavan Institute of Higher Education(VIHE). After completing his Bhakti-Shastri degree, he joined as a full-time teacher and curriculum developer at the VIHE.

Since 2018, he is involved as one of the founding team members of the ISKCON Bhagavat Mahavidyalaya.

He is a regular teacher for courses like Bhakti-Shastri, Bhakti-Vaibhav and Bhaktivedanta and has conducted various courses on the books of the Gaudiya Vaishnava Acaryas.

Premasindhu Gauranga Das also holds a master’s degree in History and is currently pursuing his PhD.

Course Overview

Course Description: Bhakti Rasamrta Sindhu is a general description of devotional service, the regulative principles, and devotional service as the ultimate goal, love of God. Srila Rupa Gosvami was the foremost disciple of Sri Krishna Caitanya, and the Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu is his literary masterpiece, a classic of devotional literature composed in Sanskrit and describing the complete science of bhakti-yoga, or linking with the Supreme through transcendental loving devotion.

This course is the first module on the Bhakti Rasamrta Sindhu. The later modules of the course will cover the whole book comprising of the other three sections.

The first module will cover the description of the Eastern ocean. Module 2 will cover the Southern ocean. Module 3 will cover the Western and Northern oceans.

Course Contents: Teaching will be from the English translations of the original Sanskrit slokas of the Bhakti Rasamrita Sindhu along with some reflections from the Durgama-sangamini-tika by Srila Jiva Gosvami pada and the Bhakti-sara-pradarshini-tika by Srila Vishvanatha Chakravarti pada.

Target audience: Ages 18 and above.

Assessment Plan: One final test with multiple-choice questions

Course Requirement: Should be practicing devotional service and chanting 16 rounds of the Maha-mantra daily since at least one year.
